Health and Wellness Modules: Sleep Module

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you should be able to:
List symptoms of sleep disorders and issues related to poor sleep
Know what is recommended for average adults
Recognize red flags
Provide sleep hygiene tactics and strategies
Distinguish between sleep disorders and sleep deprivation
These outcomes are paired with the ICHWC‘s competencies for sleep knowledge.

Why do coaches need to know this?
ICHWC Content Outline for Sleep and Health Coaching – According to the CDC, insufficient sleep is a public health epidemic. Like nutrition and physical activity, sleep is a critical determinant of health and well-being. Adequate sleep is necessary for proper immune, endocrine, and neurological functioning. Lack of sleep is also linked to traffic accidents, work errors, and decreased productivity. The coach should have a basic understanding of sleep and the important role it plays in overall health and well-being, as well as familiarity with common recommendations for healthy sleep hygiene.
