Health Coach Training

To receive a UNCG Certificate in Health & Wellness Coaching:

This Level 1 training will provide participants with specific skills and a mindset that shifts away from prescriptive medicine to a more participatory approach that guides patients toward self-efficacy in finding their own solutions for healthier outcomes. Our approach to training is grounded in behavioral theory using a hands-on interactive approach to learning. Participants should be prepared to engage in discussions and complete hands-on activities to ensure sustainability of health coaching skills.

Throughout this training participants will:

  • review behavioral theory frameworks practice motivational interviewing and health coaching
  • learn a guiding style of communication
  • discover resources and tools to assist the coach in becoming a more effective member of the healthcare team
  • receive onsite evaluation and feedback from instructors and peers

Participants who complete this 3-day training will have the opportunity to earn a certificate as a Health Coach. UNCG Health Coaching Programs 3-day Health Coach Training is a Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) Approved Board Certified Coach (BCC) training provider. This course is approved as a 30 hour BCC training course.

In the transition phase, the UNCG Health Coach Programs 3-day Health Coach Training was approved by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaches (NBHWC) up until October 30, 2020.  As a result, health and wellness coaches who have met NBHWC’s requirements and completed UNCG’s Health Coaching Program by October 30, 2020, will qualify to sit for the national exam through October 2021.

Pending approval from NBHWC, we will launch our new curriculum which will include the Level 1 training, in addition to a Level 2 training, self-paced modules and a practical skills assessment. These additional steps in our training will be required for those seeking to take the NBHWC exam. More details coming soon!
